I've now heard it all!
Here's a quick recap of my last 2 dates:
1) I told you I was meeting him a few weeks ago. He's the newscaster from Topeka. Apparently, he's also a black jack dealer at Harrahs. Found that out when I met him. He was a nice guy but completely self absorbed (in the 2 hours we sat having drinks, I think he may have asked me 1 personal question). He also has the craziest schedule I've ever heard of. Basically, even if I wanted to date him, I would probably see him every other Sunday in the month that end in Y. In short...not worth my time.
2) I went on a lunch date with a guy that seems to have some promise. Not so much when I met him. Complete dork. Sometimes dorky is good, but he was a little much for me. Needless to say, that one started and ended over lunch (that was last week sometime).
Since then I've not put much of an effort into putting myself out there. I have a girlfriend wanting to set me up with a co-worker/friend of her's after we get through the holidays. I'm actually looking forward to that. She knows me pretty well. She knows him pretty well and I trust her judgement that we'd be a good match. Being set up by friends is far different (and much better) than the online crap shoot.
And speaking of the online crap shoot, this is probably going to rank up there as one of the best-worst stories ever. I mean EVER. The good thing is, our 'relationship' never went beyond talking online:
We started talking about a week ago. Exchanged a few emails and he asked if I had a yahoo ID so we could chat there. I decided to get on there and see what this guy was all about. I learned he lived pretty close to me. He's a high school teacher in the district I live. Seemed very cool and very normal until a conversation unfolded Friday night. I downloaded messenger to my phone so it was more like texting and didn't force me to sit on my computer to talk to him.
The conversation started turning sexual pretty quick. I called him out on it and told him I really wasn't into that as I didn't even know him, never met in person, etc. He apologized and said he was just very open about that topic as he was raised that way. I told him great but I wasn't interested in having that type of conversation with someone I don't know.
And, the below conversation unfolded after he told me he was raised in very openly sexual household. When I asked what that meant:
HIM: I used to walk in on my parents all the time. At first it was an accident.
ME: At first???
HIM: Well, the first time I walked in I turned real quick to leave but my Mom called me over and asked if I had any questions. I had a few.
ME: Did she answer them?
HIM: Yes. She said sex was something to be ashamed of and they wouldn't try to hide it from me.
ME: So you would watch them? (at this point I'm amazed, grossed out, but like a car accident, can't turn away)
HIM: Yes for 2 hours.
ME: um....gotta go.
Like me, you're probably speechless. Personally, this isn't 'normal' to me. At all. Like not even close. I can now say, I've heard it all.

Belly Buttons
I will tell you probably the funniest thing that has come out of l's mouth to date...this happened about 2 weeks ago. I took her on a quick shopping trip to Kohls. I was in the 'lingerie' section. She was secured in the seat on the front of the cart. I was in the rear of the cart. I turn to look at her and see she has pulled the most obnoxious, red, lacy bra off the rack and is examining it. The following conversation ensues...
ME: L, put that back. This is not your department and you can't touch things.
L (in a very serious, matter-of-fact voice): Yes Mommy. I know this is not my department. This (holding up the said bra) is NOT my size. My belly buttons are NOT this big (pointing to the bra cups).
Belly buttons? Really? Where in the hell did she come up with that?!? I, along with 2 other women in ear shot, fought back tears from laughing so hard. The stuff she comes up with never ceases to amaze (and humor) me.

Uneventful Weekend
And Boston Boy/Houdini. We didn't go out this weekend but did have some brief, but very thought provoking conversations. I made it very clear to him what I wasn't looking for. He asked if he could just get a do-over with our entire relationship (if you can even call it that...2 dates hardly constitutes a 'relationship'). I told him maybe but he's has some explaining to do first. I got a very heart felt apology about his communication skills (or lack there of). He told me (with out going into detail) that he's had some shit hit the fan in the last 2 weeks and while that wasn't fair to me, he had to take care of some things. He did tell me he would explain more when we saw each other again. Who knows when that will be...he leaves Wednesday for Thanksgiving in Boston. Meanwhile, I have a pretty eventful week planning. Lot's of fun stuff going on around here with friends coming in town, etc. Looking forward to it!

To believe or not believe...that is the question.
Apparently he took his phone to the gym with him Sunday afternoon and had it on the treadmill. It fell off, bounced around, and the completely broke/screen shattered/blah blah blah. Since it's his 'personal' cell phone, he doesn't have the contacts in it linked to a computer, etc. He had insurance but that meant filing a claim and waiting for the phone to be shipped. In the meantime, he couldn't access phone numbers, text, etc etc etc. He got the new phone yesterday and was able to retrieve all his contacts (via some card..who the hell knows). So that's his story and he's sticking to it. I offered to show me the insurance claim as proof (whatever).
So the question becomes...should I give him the benefit of the doubt and believe him or run for the hills? My head tells me to run (as all of you are probably screaming right now). My heart tells me give him one more shot (3 strikes and you're out). There is just so much about him I like. He has a wonderful combination of qualities that are so hard to find (trust me, I've been on enough dates to know a good one when I see one and to know how hard is to find all these great qualities in one package so the speak). That's why I'm siding with my heart (yell at me now...get it out of the way). I might just be glutting for punishment and disappointment, but that's on me. Totally my fault..I know I'm setting myself up for a let down but I think the benefits outweigh the risks. What's the harm in going on one more date with him (at least I get a nice dinner and some good wine). And trust me, he'll be berated with a lot of tough questions. I need to figure out quickly if we truly are looking for the same thing.

Houdini!
Thursday night...make plans with Boston Boy (who is from here on out refered to as Houdini) to hang out Friday. I tell him I have a friend coming in town that I would like to hook up with at some point but don't know the exact plan yet, let's just plan to touch base Friday and figure out plans.
Friday at noon...I text him to tell him I'm not meeting my friend so I'm available for whatever, let me know what you want to do.... don't hear back, 4pm, still nothing....5pm still nothing....6pm still nothing. I call a girlfriend and make other plans. Enough of the waiting game. If you can't call me by 6pm to confirm our very loosy-goosy plans, then I'm moving on.I'm not desperate. I'm not going to wait by my phone and be at your beckon call.
7:15pm...I'm on my way to Brookside to meet said girlfriend and guess who texts me. That's right...at 7:15pm to make plans for the evening. He asked what I am doing and I bluntly tell him I'm headed to meet a girlfriend. I didn't hear from him so I made other plans. He tells me he's very sorry, he has a work and personal cell phone and forgot to take the personal cell with him to work. Whatever. He says "I missed out". Yes...yes you did!
That bring us to Saturday. I knew he was flying to Chicago for the day for a business meeting. We text back and forth a little. He asks what I am going that evening. I tell him I'm hanging with Layla but that I'm free Sunday evening. He asks if I want to do something. I know he's a big Patriots fan so I suggest we go grab drinks and watch the game Sunday evening. He's say, "I'd love that...sounds like a good plan". In the midst of the texts he tells me several times he misses me...he hasn't seen me since Tuesday..he wishes we could just chill together Saturday night...blah blah blah.
So...Sunday rolls around. He texts me (notice the trend here...he can't seem to actually call, just texts) about 12:30 to see what I'm up to. I tell him I just dropped off Layla with her dad, I'm going to run errands and hit the gym. He responds: "great...text me when you're done". So finish up about 3:30pm. I call him (heaven forbid). No answer. Left him a msg to call me when he gets a minute so we can come up with a plan for the evening. No answer. No phone call. No text. 6:30pm I text him to see what the hell is going on. No answer. No phone call. Nothing. It's now Wednesday...I still haven't heard from the bastard. Are you kidding??? I'm pretty much over it now. Just frustrated and trying to figure out what the hell happened. Playing a guessing game is not fun. I mean if you decided you just didn't like me and didn't want to see me, have the f-ing balls to tell me. Don't just stop communicating. Don't just leave me hanging out there. Especially when you told me numerous times the day before you missed me, couldn't wait to see me and hang out, etc. I mean please!
NEXT! Have no fear....I have a date lined up for Friday. Yes...I know. It's a weekend night and they shouldn't get a weekend for a first timer, but I have a crazy week and that is the only night that worked for both of us. Plus I need something to keep my mind off of Houdini.
***UPDATE***
Approximately 2 hours after putting this on my blog Houdini texted me. HAHAHA. Maybe he's hacked the blog somehow! Here's what he said: "Hey Christian, how's it going?". WTF??? No, I'm sorry, I'm an ass, etc etc etc. Nope. Just a very casual, hey what's up. ARE YOU KIDDING? Here's the horrible thing, I like him. I'm having a hard telling him to just go f-himself. What the hell is wrong with me????

Figuring him out
So, Tuesday night I saw Boston boy again (that's what my friends have started calling him). When we planning the date, he suggested I just come over there and hang out, have some wine, watch a movie, etc. I will admit, I was slightly nervous about the whole thing. Not that I didn't feel comfortable around him, but that's a lot of pressure for a second date. If the conversation isn't flowing, there is little to distract us. It's intense. But, I went. I will also admit, I was looking forward to checking out his living situation. That's tells a lot about someone!
Right now he's living in a apartment (he wants me to help him find a house ASAP). The apartment is small but well appointed and VERY VERY clean (even the bathroom!). It's also very well decorated. I asked if he did it himself and he said yes, he loves to do that kind of stuff. Surprising because he doesn't come off as being that type of guy. He is also a collector of fabulous, one of kind art pieces. Suffice to say, I'm a little intimidated to have him over to my place! I was so happy to see he doesn't live like a a freaking 21 year old (that was one of my huge grips about Manhattan boy...he lived like he was still in college). Nope, Boston boy owns real, grown up furniture and all! :)
So the actual conversation/date review: It went really well. Conversation flowed easily. I was completely comfortable just hanging on the couch with him and relaxing. He asked several times if I wanted to go out and get drinks for a while since this was odd for a second date. I did just fine though. We talked about our families (found out his parents also recently relocated to Overland Park), sports, politics, and other random things. And, he's quite the talented kisser. ;)
I'm very cautiously optimistic about him. It'll definitely take hanging out with him a little more to 'figure him out'. I'm still trying to decide if he's looking for a real relationship or just a casual thing. It's hard to tell after only 2 dates. We are supposed to go out again tonight though. We'll see what happens!

Breaking Rules
When I'm asked to describe my "type", the person I picture in my head is the person I met last night. I will have to say, I was a little hesitant because he only had one picture on his profile. This rarely happens, but he was actually better looking than his picture. He's about 6'4, average build (perfect..not to skinny and in shape). And he looks a lot like Ben Affleck...in a scary way. He's also from Boston. Played football (defensive end) at Boston College. He's only 31 but wow, the maturity level is incredible. He moved to KC about 6 months ago to run the midwest division of what sounds like a family owned financial advising company. I was a little tipsy (we'll get to that in a minute) and we didn't spend a ton of time talking about his work, but he did mention he oversees about 350 employees/advisors. Ok then.
So back to the beginning of this date. Do you think it's bad to show up tipsy to a first 'date'? Well I did. I didn't intend on it happening, but the beers were going down really well yesterday afternoon (I was at a restaurant/bar cheering on LSU). Needless to say, I was already 5 beers in when I met him. Luckily we did something completely low key and met at Tanners. I'm pretty sure the beers made me more relaxed, but I'm also pretty sure I said some things that probably didn't sound exactly right. I can't tell you what those are, because I don't know, but I'm just guessing I said some pretty stupid things/told pointless stories/etc. We stayed for about 2 and half hours, which is pretty good for a first 'meet and greet'. The conversation flowed easily. The kiss at the end of the date also felt effortless. No awkwardness. No hesitation (again, all the beer I had had probably helped but whatever). He invited me to go to a Chief's game in a few weeks that he has to take clients too. He told me he wants to go to Dallas to see Kenny with me in April. We've talked about going skiing this winter. Yeah. It pretty much went well.
So the date ended about 9:30 because he was going to go meet some friends that were in town. I decided to run up to Coaches to see if my Dad was still there drinking and watching the Tenn game. About 20 minutes after I left him, he had already texted me. He told me he really didn't want our date to end and asked me if I wanted to meet back up for a glass of wine after he went and said hi to his friends. I said yes, but after another 3 beers at Coaches I decided I was tipsy enough to start making bad decisions. I really liked this guy and didn't want to screw it up (excuse the pun) on the first night. I was a good, good girl and went home. ;)
So after over-analyzing the entire date in my head all morning I wondered if it really did go as well as I felt it did. What if he didn't like me? What if he was just looking for one night of fun? Oh the anguish! And then, my phone ding donged. It was him. Sending me a text. Checking in to see how I was feeling this morning. So sweet! We've been texting back and forth sporadically all day. He asked me out again. I said yes. We have plans for Tuesday...which also happens to be my monthly happy hour with the girlfriends (since Tues and Thurs are my only child-free nights during the week I try to cram in as much as I can to those nights). Happy hour starts at 5:30pm so I told him it would have to be around 7 or a little after. I can't wait to see him again! The bad news is, I might show up a little tipsy again after happy hour. Oops! Or maybe I need to learn a little restraint! ;)

The online dating strategy...
That said, I was suppose to meet someone for drinks this evening but apparently he's tied up at work (whatever). Instead I'm now meeting a few single girlfriends and we will surely raise some hell. He wants to go out Saturday night. That's against my personal rules (first dates don't get weekends). But ya know what, I might just screw that rule because I'm child free Sat night and have yet to make plans. What the hell...might as well live on the edge right?

I'm back!
However...here's a reason I took a break. The freaks are back! Check these guys out who emailed me:

There are so many things wrong about this picture but that's not even the best part of his profile. Here's his verbiage he uses (disclaimer: as hard as it was, I did not edit):
"iam a country guy that loves to be outdoors. i am a tlocal truck driver i have a roping horse and used to ride bulls and brack horses. love to spend time with family and friends. i love drive around and ps. ing"
Not quite sure what he means when he says "he loved...ps. ing", but I don't want to find out. Next!!!!!
I was so pleasantly shocked when I got an email from this guy. Surely he wasn't serious. The dude looks like my Dad:
I take that back...he looks nothing like my Dad...my Dad wears much cooler jeans!
Now you know why I took a break. I needed to regroup. During my break though I've had a little fun (some nights a little too much fun). I'm not going into detail, but it's been a good couple of weeks.
Stay tuned for more updates...

Freak Out
A guy I went to middle and high school with friended me on FB last week. He's apparently (from what I can tell) just recently joined. He sent me a note with his request about how we went to school together and he hoped I remembered him, etc. Sounded a little canned but nice. So I friended him. He immediately sent me an email via FB asking how I was, what I was doing, and telling me he was now a screenwriter and he'd be more than happy to share is scripts with me if I was interested. I didn't respond (it was Friday afternoon and I had a busy weekend and didn't get on FB all weekend). On Sunday he sent me the exact same email but this time to my personal gmail account. I was a little creeped out, it's like, leave me alone, I'll respond when I can. So I responded to the FB email that evening. It was short and sweet and I didn't give him a whole lot of information. He never responded but since then just about everytime I get on FB he immediately IM's me. Today he asked me if I worked from home (strange). If you saw the dudes picture and knew the type of person he was in school you'd understand my concern (he pretty much fits the profile of a serial killer). I did a little digging and found out all his screenplays are horror/murder flicks. Great. Also found out he lives in Overland Park. Great. And even better, he apparently (from what I can tell online) still lives his parents house(probably in the basement). So....for some reason he has me freaked out. Like he's gonna show up at my house and turn one of his screenplays into a real life experience. I'm so freaked out I set my house alarm ALL THE TIME. Not just when I leave and sleep, but when I take a shower, when I'm upstairs doing stuff, etc. I've also contemplated making up some hair brain story the next time he IM's me about being really tired because I've been moving all day (and telling him I moved in with my make believe boyfriend). I'm thinking that may scare him off. Please tell me I'm just being stupid (but first, go to my profile on Facebook...he's the last person I friended and look at this picture) !!!!
Okay...now onto the reason you probably came here to begin with...the post game report. I was a little suprised last night when Date #1 (drinks tues night)texted me to tell me he had had a dinner date with another gal and felt more chemistry with her so he'd like to see where that goes. Whatever. I can't say I'm all that upset. He was really nice and very safe. I knew people that knew him which is always a good thing but the fact I knew his ex-wife creeped me out a little. He didn't really knock my socks off and I wasn't all that excited about going on a 2nd, 3rd, 4th date with him. He was just...safe. Plus he was a tad on the short side for me and balding.
Meanwhile, I was really wasn't expecting to hear from lunch date yesterday. I had myself set up for a let down. I really felt like I probably wasn't his type. He comes off as being the type of guy that would probably go for the tiny, little blonde barbie girls (and could easily get whomever he wants...he pretty much looks like Ken). Layer that on top of being super successful, fun, athletic and yeah, I was thinking I probably wouldn't hear from him. But I did! He texted me last night and we went back and forth for quite a while. He told me he was really glad he had met me. We joked about how much territory we covered in an hour lunch (it was seriously like rapid fire). That was another reason I thought I wouldn't hear from him, I thought maybe I told him too much (come to find out, he thought he had done the same). I actually told him Farhad's name...that right there is usually enough to scare men off...I think at that point they begin to question my judgement. It was hysterical when I told him his name though...he says, "that makes me think of Far-quad from that Disney movie". Anyway, that apparently didn't scare him off. We haven't made plans to see other again. Might be a little challenging as he has his son until Sunday night, leaves for a work trip to the East coast Monday morning, then headed to North Carolina next weekend for a buddies wedding. Regardless, I was happy and little suprised to hear from him so soon after our little meet and greet.
That's it. I'm out. Let's all pray I don't get butchered into bite size pieces and shoved into a suitcase.

Wow...what to do now
Date #1 last night...we realized we both know quite a few of the same people. It's really nice when that happens. Puts him into the 'your not a lying psycho' category right away. Anyway, super nice guy. Successful but humble. Simple but exciting. I was pretty close with his 2 kids ages...11 and 12. Oh, and I know his ex-wife. That was awkward. She was a diver and we competed against each other. Oh, and she didn't like me. When I was a sophomore and she was a senior I beat her at state knocking her out of the top 3. Whoops! I didn't know her very well, but what I did 'know of her' was that she was a little strange, kind of hippy-ish strange. It's not a negative for him, but more like a "well if you were attracted to her, not sure you'll be attracted to me' type feeling. Nonetheless, we had a great conversation and he asked me if I'd be interested in going out again. That's ALWAYS such an awkward thing. I mean I always say yes, even if I don't mean it. It's hard for me to tell a guy to their face that you're not interested. This one though, I am interested in seeing again. We'll see what happens.
Lunch date today...he's definitely easy on the eyes, tall, very successful. But also has just a little bit of a arrogance to him (which isn't necessarily a bad thing...he's confident). I would definitely put him in the pretty boy/metro sexual category. Super funny. Really good conversation. Ya know...all the good stuff. He just moved here in August so I was a little concerned that he wouldn't have any friends here, etc (that's one of my red flags...they must have there own life and friends). I was happy to find out he actually had quite a few friends here. He's a tennis player (and looks like one). Apparently back in the day he was pretty darn good and played on the ATP tour. Some of the guys he played with and good friends of his growing up live in the area. The end of the date was as always, awkward. I was his very first match.com date. He was hysterical...we were walking out of the restaurant and he said, "I'm not really quite sure what I am suppose to say now...probably something like, I enjoyed this and want to do it again...does that sound right?" Doesn't sounds so funny now, but it was cute.
Anyway, all in all, 2 good dates. Made me have hope again in the process. Now, the waiting game...we'll see if they actually do call, etc. Woo-hoo...love this part!

"Next"
Tonight I'm meeting a guy that some of my friends actually know (woo-hoo. This allowed me to fib to my mom and tell her I met him through them...she hates the online dating scene). He's not only good looking (at least the pictures he's posted would lead to that...and I found his unlocked facebook page with about 100 more pictures that all lend to the fact he's good looking), he's tall, he's successful (been with a very large company here in Kansas City for 13 years in the technology field), doesn't live in his parents basement and is super nice. We've had great conversations and seem to share some mutual interests. He does have 2 kids...from the pics I saw I'm guessing they are about 12 and 10. Not the most ideal (younger would be better) but beggars can't be chosers! Wish me luck...6:45 drinks tonight!
Tomorrow's lunch date really has me intrigued. I also met him on Match (and told my Mom that...she seemed all excited about him and then the big let down, "how did you meet him?"). He recently moved to KC from Ohio. He grew up there however is ex-wife is from Overland Park. They have an 8 year old son and she wanted to move back to KC to be close to her family. He couldn't stand the thought of being away from his son so he moved too. Bless his heart! He is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing for his family business. After doing some re-con online, I found his family business is quite well known, as is he. They produce and market collectible artsy glass. Apparently, if you can get a piece of their art with one of the family members signatures it's worth some money. His grandfather started the business and it's stayed in the family for 3 generations. He was traveling this weekend and told me he had to attend a work event in New York City. Of course I found on there company website not only did he have to attend the event, he was the main attraction...it was a signing event where patrons could bring in their glass pieces and have him sign them. Pretty cool. He's seems fairly laid back, yet definitely has a good head on his shoulders. And, according to the pics he has online, pretty easy on the eyes. Although he didn't post too many pics which always worries me. A little more of a crap shoot.
So there's your pre-game rundown. I'll certainly be back soon to do a little updating and let you know if the 'players' live up to the hype!
In other news....I got an email and a wink today from a guy who's profile picture was his high school football portrait. Really? If you're going to put a an old picture of yourself online don't make it that obvious! It's like the idiot who put up pictures that have the date stamps on them: 9/13/99. No shit your 49 and only look 35 in your pictures! And to think, they are some gals out there who will fall for it!

The Blog is Back!
So here's a very BRIEF rundown of the dates (at least the ones worth mentioning) I've had in the past month:
Guy #1: One word...psycho. I didn't realize this though until attempted date #4. I had spend the afternoon and evening at the emergency vet with Sasha. Things weren't looking good for her and I was in no mood to go out with him. That and the fact he didn't call me until 8:30pm to figure out what we were doing (um, I'm not 21. I normally go out before 10pm!). Needless to say I didn't call him back until well after 10. He was hammered at his friends bars (red flag #3 and #4. Him being hammered at his friends bar was a reoccurring theme). After a few minutes of listening to him beg and plead for him to come pick him up (um, no!), he started telling me he loves me and can't live without me. And there is was...18 degrees of crazy! NEXT!
Guy #2: He insisted on meeting me out on an evening when I was out with girlfriends on the Plaza (and planning to spend the night down there at my GF's). I finally caved (I will admit, I was a little tipsy). First of all, he didn't show up until 11:30pm. Secondly, he took a cab. Red flag #1 and #2. I had maybe one more drink in me before I was ready to call it a night. He seemed to think we were going to close down the bars. Again, I'm not 21. About 10 minutes into the "date" (I really can't even call it that), he turned to me and says, "So, do you think it would be okay if I just came back to your girlfriends house and spent the night there with you?". Me: "Um...NO! NO! AND NO!". He start pouting and actually says, "well, I took a cab all the way down here and now you're going to leave me along?". Me: "Yes". I've never done this before, but I proceeded to go to the bathroom, conveniently located my the back door of the bar and 'accidentally' went out the back door and left him at the bar. NEXT!
Guy #3: THE.WORST.EVER. I mean seriously. I knew I had problems when he called and couldn't find the restaurant. He was in the parking lot right next to it yet it took him 25 minutes to find it. This guy was a train wreck. He looked and smelled like he lived in his Mom's basement. Remember when I used to post the 'freak of the week'"? If he had had his actual picture on his online profile, he would have been a candidate. The problem was, his profile picture clearly wasn't of him. He also fudged his height just a little...maybe about 7 inches (he hardly cleared my shoulder). I met him for lunch this past Tuesday. He walked in and I actually thought to myself, "can I pretend to not know him and walk out the door". The problem is, my pics online ACTUALLY look like me. After ordering I cornered our server and told him to bring out our order ASAP. It worked. The lunch date lasted 23 minutes. NEXT!
We'll see when "NEXT" is. This is frustrating. I will say though, I went on a really fabulous lunch date last week (one of my friends set us up). He's out of town for 3 weeks though and I haven't talked to him. We'll soon see what transpires with that. In the meantime though...I'm ready for the "NEXT"....
