After my many failed attempts at keeping up a blog I am trying again. Life's been a little crazy the last few months and while I am always thinking "that would be a good thing to 'blog' about" it never seems to get out of my head and onto a computer. But, I finally have my wireless internet back (why that makes a difference I don't know...but just go with it). A few random thoughts for my first (or 10th 'first') entry:
Dating...what the hell was I thinking? My life was cruising along just fine without having to complicate it with dating. It's been a while: 7 years, 6 months and few days if you're counting (not that I am). I forgot everything I loved and hated about dating. I have to admit...it is fun. Fun because it's been a while. Fun to feel those butterflies again and get excited about something other than Layla saying a new word. But seriously...it's complicated. Probably more so now because I have a little girl (that's an entirely different topic though: dating with toddlers...yikes!). All these dumb rules (who came up with these anyway). Figuring out what to say and how to say it so I don't come off sounding like a complete rookie at this. And this internet thing. The last time I was 'dating', internet dating still carried a bad stigma and I honestly didn't take part back then. I have to admit, the match.com thing is pretty entertaining. I tried eharmony last week and when they were sending me matches from Arkansas, Alabama and Canada (last time I checked, Canada was not within 60 miles of Kansas City), I decided to ask for a refund (still pending by the way). I guess I'll have to dust off my little patience hat. Patience and I have never really gotten along too well.
My new favorite time of day: I always get those stupid emails that ask you to answer 50 questions about yourself and send it out to your friends. Unless I am in a state of complete boredom, I never do it. But I do read them. They always seem to have a question about your favorite time of day. Tonight I was laying on the floor in Layla's bedroom watching her play (give me a break...I was exhausted and she wasn't). She hit her 'wall' and I figured it out: my favorite time of day...the few precious minutes every night just when she runs out of energy and right before she goes to bed. The moment where she crawls onto my lap (or like tonight, lays on the floor next to me) and just stares at me. She actually cuddles (and if you've ever been around this girl, she not a cuddler. She's a ball of energy). It's precious and priceless and reminds me of what a gift it is to be a Mom. It's just put everything into a perspective for me...each and every night!
It was 9 years ago exactly...to the day...I moved to California. So weird! To all my friends in Sacramento...love you, but you really need to chill about 'how freezing it is here'. Give me a freakin break...what is it...40 degrees???

that IS freezing when it was 65 degrees last week-- wtf?! i just walked katie riley and shan to the door-- they were walking out with shan's little one kevin, after our lovely dinner. that's right-- little kevin bleeker is walking and talking and pointing out santa. so cute. love your new blog and the little peek it gives into your days. still wish you were closer enough to visit-- i'll get out there next year. i met someone from kansas city last week and of course asked them if they knew you. (only i would assume they would-- you know, being in the middle and all.) then proceeded to tell them about the wonderful shopping they have out there-- as if i knew what i was talking about. whatever-- i remember the pictures you showed me once. got a little laugh of the day last week when that friend of your confused your brother with the new guy in your life-- you would make a wonderful couple, if YOU DIDN'T LOOK LIKE BROTHER AND SISTER. tee hee. i only laugh because when i went househunting with my brother last year i was treated as the little 'woman' by the realtors and asked what kind of kitchen i wanted. i guess if you lived in arkansas, it'd be a bit more of a possibility. but i don't even need a map to know kansas city is a ways off of arkansas. (anyone else who reads this, i'm KIDDING-- i'm sure that one will come back to bite me in the ass when i run for public office someday.) just wanted to say hi my friend... have a wonderful week. xo
